Meet Jeffrey S. Gilbert The Trial Lawyer Behind The Law Offices Of Jeffrey S. Gilbert

|

When you face a life-changing injury, you need more than a name on a website. You want to know who will stand beside you, tell you the truth, and fight for what you need to move forward. That is why we invite you to get to know Jeffrey S. Gilbert not just through a resume, but in his own words.

In the short video below, he talks candidly about his reputation, how he approaches each case, and what drives him when a client’s future hangs in the balance.

Hear Jeffrey’s Voice & Values

In the video, Jeffrey answers a simple question: what kind of lawyer do people say he is? His response starts with character, not numbers or titles:

“First and foremost, they recognize me as someone who maintains the highest level of ethics. When I represent something, it’s true.”

Honesty forms the backbone of how he practices law. When he tells a client or a court something, he wants everyone to know they can rely on it. That focus on truth has guided his career since he graduated from Emory University School of Law in 1983 and began trying jury trials in Georgia.

He also doesn’t shy away from how others see his style in the courtroom:

“Beyond that, you can pretty much tell that they think I’m aggressive… I am aggressive, I’m competitive. I don’t have the time in my life to sugarcoat things when I’m fighting a battle for somebody whose well-being is at stake.”

That directness reflects how he views catastrophic injury cases. For the person living with the injury, there is no “small case.” As he puts it in the video, “For my client, this case is everything.”

From Insurance Defense To Standing With The Injured

Jeff did not start his career representing injured people. After Emory Law, he worked as an insurance defense lawyer, primarily defending Travelers Insurance Companies. During that time, he tried approximately eight to ten jury trials a year. The experience gave him a deep understanding of how insurers evaluate and defend claims.

Over time, that role no longer fit how he wanted to use his skills. In the video, he describes a turning point: he changed sides and began representing plaintiffs in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. He realized many of those cases were underserved and found he enjoyed working closely with people who had great needs.

He later opened his own firm as a sole practitioner. Since then, he has focused his practice on catastrophic plaintiffs and claimants, including people hurt in automobile, trucking, and motorcycle accidents, along with a limited number of devastating workers’ compensation cases. That focus allows him to devote significant time and attention to each person and family who walks through our doors.

Why “Maximizing Recovery” Means Real-Life Change

Jeff’s philosophy comes through clearly in the video when he talks about what he aims to accomplish in every catastrophic injury case:

“If you really want to get down to what my philosophy is, it’s to absolutely maximize the recovery for whoever I’m representing. And most of the people I represent have had life changing injuries.”

For him, recovery is not an abstract number. It is about what that money can do in the real world. He explains that the goal is to help clients pay for the tools and care that make life possible after a severe injury:

  • Medical equipment that maintains health & function
  • Handicapped-accessible vans for safe transportation
  • Day-to-day and long-term attendant care
  • Homes modified or built to be fully accessible

“Those things cost money,” he says simply. He knows he cannot “snap [his] fingers and bring back someone’s health,” so he focuses on what the civil justice system can provide: financial resources that let injured people and their families adapt and regain as much independence and dignity as possible.

Respect, Relationships & The “Fixer” Mindset

Jeff’s bio tells another side of the story that you may not see in a courtroom transcript. He treats each case, each individual, and each family with deep respect. Over the years, he has often built lifelong friendships with the people he represents. Many clients describe him as “a bulldog” or “the fixer” because he stays with a problem until he finds a way through it.

That mindset aligns with how we practice at Gilbert Injury Law. We keep our caseload intentionally limited so we can give each client one-on-one attention from the attorney handling the case. When someone trusts us after a catastrophic accident or work injury, we understand they are turning to us during one of the hardest seasons of their life. Jeff’s direct, honest communication style helps clients understand what to expect and what he is doing on their behalf.

Passion, Drive & Life Beyond The Office

Jeff brings the same focus and competitiveness from his personal life into his law practice. He is an avid motorcyclist and holds an active Expert Racing license with the Western Eastern Racing Association (WERA). He currently races a Honda CBR 600RR and started riding motorcycles when he was just 10 years old. That long history on two wheels gives him a unique connection to motorcyclists who suffer catastrophic injuries on the road.

He also skis at a high level and has spent years on the slopes. That love of skiing led him to create the Alpine Adaptive Ski Program (AASPGA.ORG), a 501(c)(3) charity that helped physically challenged individuals rediscover life through adaptive skiing. With modified equipment and specialized training, participants experienced the joy of a sport many thought they had lost forever. Although the charity became inactive during COVID, Jeff hopes to revive this uplifting program in the future.

Through this hands-on work, he has seen up close what it means to live with profound, life-changing disability. He often speaks of the courage it takes for injured people to wake up every day to the reality of severe physical limitations. That respect shapes how he approaches every catastrophic injury case across Georgia.

Service, Community & Long-Term Commitment

Jeff’s commitment to others extends beyond the courtroom and ski slopes. For the past 20 years, he has served on the advisory board of Adopt a Golden Atlanta and currently acts as its Director of Business Affairs. The organization finds caring homes for Golden Retrievers and works to keep them out of shelters.

This long-term involvement reflects the same qualities he brings to his law practice: loyalty, consistency, and a willingness to show up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Whether he is standing up for a catastrophically injured worker or helping a rescue dog find a safe home, he invests in people and causes for the long haul.
