Kathleen M. Pacious
About
Kathleen M. Pacious, a seasoned legal professional, joined our practice in 2024, currently serving in an "of counsel" role. With over 37 years of litigation experience, Kathleen is a valuable addition to our team. She graduated from Emory University School of Law in 1985 and holds an undergraduate degree from Boston College.
Kathleen began her legal career in private practice, focusing on negligence cases and workers' compensation cases. She tried over 30 jury trials as lead counsel and frequently appeared before the State Board of Workers' Compensation. Like Jeff, she is a real jury-trial lawyer with experience in serious administrative claims, such as workers’ compensation.
After 12 years in private practice, she took her passion for litigation to the public sector. She joined the Office of the Georgia Attorney General as a Deputy Attorney General in 1997 and led the General Litigation Division for 25 years.
The Division handled tort, civil rights, and workers' compensation cases. With the Tort Section, she worked on cases involving premises liability, negligent road design, medical negligence, and other tort actions against the State. Cases were filed in various counties across the state. With the Civil Rights Section, she worked on cases alleging violations of the First, Fourth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments as well as other constitutional issues. Cases were filed in federal court, including two that were argued before the United States Supreme Court. Kathleen, with her extensive experience, reviewed all cases in her Division with significant exposure and served on the D.O.A.S. serious case review committee for many years, making recommendations to the State regarding resolution. In addition to her work in the courtroom, Kathleen’s success in encouraging the use of mediation as a tool for resolution, with numerous successful mediations in both the private and public sectors, is a testament to her practical conflict-resolution skills. She now brings her experience and extensive knowledge from the proverbial “dark side” to protect those injured by negligence and those severely injured in the workplace. Both defense lawyers and insurers widely respect her.
For over 20 years at the Attorney General's office, Kathleen also managed the internship and externship programs, mentoring hundreds of law students while sharing her passion for litigation.
Outside of her legal career, Kathleen is deeply committed to community service. She lives in the Atlanta area with her husband and three lively golden retrievers, all rescued through Adopt a Golden Atlanta. Kathleen also serves as a foster for this organization, demonstrating her compassion and dedication to animal welfare.
